SurvCity.com's Survey FAQ
| |
Isn't the survey just
converted over from the e-document we provided SurvCity.com?
| |
No. The e-document you provided
is used for purposes of cutting and pasting text from your document to our
survey template which will ultimately be displayed in the respondent's browser
as HTML. We too are aware of word processing programs which have some feature
which promises to convert the document for viewing on the Web. Let us spare
you the time, it doesn't work for surveys.

Are the survey responses
e-mailed back to SurvCity.com?
| |
No. When the respondent
submits the surveys, just the data (not a "picture" of the page)
is sent back to our server through the Internet, but not via e-mail. Software
on our server then writes the data to either a database table or a data
file (depending on the type of survey). SurvCity.com then converts this
data to the format of your choice or we can hand it over as is. SurvCity.com's
experience has been in the marketing and research industry and we are fully
capable of catering to the specific needs of that community.

Are the surveys secure?
| |
Since the data typically
collected in surveys is not of a personally identifiable nature, most of
our customers simply run the survey over unencrypted http. However survcity.com
is certified by Thawte and our customers have the option of running their
surveys through a secure socket layer (SSL) ensuring up to 128-bit encryption
of all data transferred between respondents and our server.
Access to the actual survey is controlled by including a unique ID in each
e-mail invitation sent to respondents. This UID will identify the user to
our system and log them in automatically. Once the survey is completed,
respondents are typically prevented from entering another record or modifying
their responses.

Shouldn't the respondent
have to enter a password before completing the survey?
| |
We strongly recommend against
using a username/password scheme for respondents to view a survey. The UID
system described in the FAQ above provides the same functionality as a password,
but without requiring respondents to type in a username and/or password.
The reason for this is simple; MANY respondents ALWAYS type in an erroneous
username and/or password. Trust us on this one. With our system, respondents
simply click on a link in their e-mail. From there, they are validated and
granted entry into the survey. No problems.
Nevertheless, if your study requires the use of a username/password to access
the survey, we can accomodate.

What about all those
websites where you can make your own online survey for free?
| |
We don't compete with free.
Our system was designed with the specific needs of the marketing and research
industries in mind. We could go on and on about how we create each survey
specifically for our clients, that we can provide the data in the format
that you need, etc., but we won't. What we suggest is to actually go and
try to use one of these "free" services to get your survey online.
If you find that it is exactly what you needed, consider yourself a smart
shopper. If not, we'll be here :-)
